Thierry Pharmacy Collection

The Pharmacy Collection represents the pharmaceutical activity of the Thierry family, whose activity is of utmost importance for Croatia because it was the first industrial production of medicines in Croatia in Pregrada.

The production of medicines was based on the professional and scientific experience of centuries of pharmacy in Croatia. Although the Thierry family is most important for the development of pharmacy in Pregrada, the first Pregrada pharmacist was Hipolit Bilinski, a Polish nobleman from Galicia. After studying pharmacy in Lviv and Vienna, where he graduated in 1866, Bilinski arrives in Pregrada and opens a pharmacy, which he calls ‘K guardian angel’.

After his death, the pharmacy in Pregrada was bought by the Thierry family. Pharmacist Adolf pl. On 9 November 1892 Thierry de Chateauvieux received a concession document number 52 906, i.e. a licence to operate a pharmacy in Pregrada. Thierry commissioned one of Zagreb’s well-known builders, Gjuro Carnelutti, to design the main building and the production complex, and in 1893 he opened the pharmacy ‘K Angjelu keeper’. On 2 March 1900, two main products were patented in London as a confirmation of the serious business activity of the family, namely the pharmacy ‘K Angjelu guardianu’.

Adolf Thierry first registered the so-called English Miracle Balm and Centrifugal Ointment in London on 20 October 1899, then patented the products on 2 March 1900 and eventually sold them in 1901 for 960,000 crowns in the same city. The document also contains a commercial (protective) mark (so-called green nun) for these products.
